Let's Celebrate!

EAPrep Celebrates Our Supporters With Music Video
Posted on 08/26/2015
In 2009, East Austin College Prep first opened its doors as a free, public, charter school serving grades six through eight, making it the first public middle school in the East Austin neighborhood of Govalle-Johnston Terrace in over 25 years. Six years later, some of those very middle school students are getting ready to graduate as part of EAPrep’s first senior class. What a reason to celebrate! And we never would have made it to this point without the generous support of our donors. That’s why East Austin College Prep students, faculty and staff worked together to create this music video to say thanks.

The video features a song called “Celebrate” performed by Pitbull for a very special reason. In the fall of 2009, when EAPrep had only just opened its doors, Pitbull was in Austin for a show and he made time for a special visit with some of our students. The visit was a reward for our students for excellent academic performance and perfect attendance and the select few who got to meet Pitbull also got to ride in a limo, watch the technical rehearsal before his show and interview him, as well as take some photos. At least one of those middle school students that met Pitbull that day has a prominent scene in the music video and is not only a member of the dance team, but she continues to be a top performing student at EAPrep and will graduate this year. So, thanks to Pitbull and all our supporters for helping to keep Laura and the rest of our students inspired!
